Global Campaign for Rwandans Human Rights has been informed about the disappearance of a British national in Rwanda. Ms Violette Uwamahoro, a mother of two from Leeds, UK has gone missing in Rwanda on Tuesday 14 February 2017.
Ms Uwamahoro who has a dual British and Rwandan citizenship was on a visit in Rwanda following the death of her father and was on her way to board a flight back to UK when she was kidnapped by unknown individuals in Kigali capital.
Global Campaign for Rwandans Human Rights understands that the Rwanda Police has denied to have arrested her. Based on obtained information and communication technology-related forensics, we believe that Ms Uwamahoro may have been abducted and kept illegally at undisclosed location by Rwandan intelligence services.
Furthermore, due to the fact that her whereabouts remain unknown for more than 10 days we have reasons to believe that Ms Uwamahoro’s life is in danger and her disappearance extremely concern us considering previous well documented disappearance cases in Rwanda.
Global Campaign for Rwandans Human Rights demands the Rwandan Security Services to inform the family where Ms Uwamahoro is and to release her without delay so that she can join her two children and husband who desperately want to be with her.
